Hello David

   Welcome back :-)

Alas, I was occupied with office work (daily bread and all),
along with my work on the harvestman web crawler. I have had
not much time to develop for the voting project with all that
for the last week.

Anyway I have written some code that parses the ballot-frame-style.xml
and a basic frame-placements.xml which I wrote (very rough) and
renders a basic frame. It is not accurate, so I will work on it improving
it,
starting this weekend. Once I feel it is ready enough for review, I shall
upload it via CVS.

Regards

-Anand

Subject: [voting-project] DQM back

Hi Gang,

I'm back into town. I've read through the on-list correspondence (I saw
most of it during my week away, on bad connections, but could not post).
In general, it looks like everything is going nicely, and Jan and others
are moving along well on the printed ballot (and associated data
formats).

One topic that came up in the conversation was a suggestion--I think
from Jan--to substitute a ballotid-keyed digit-rotation for an XOR. I
agree with the proposed strategy. Since we are working with decimal
digits in the encoding, this technique will require fewer mutation steps
than a binary XOR... and therefore leave one less place for things to go
wrong. Digit rotation will certainly provide the desired visual
obfuscation.

I'll update the documentation to reflect that. I'd also like to update
it with a current cast-ballot.xml document, and perhaps any modified
version of ballot-election.xml that has been worked up. Who is most on
top of that? Jan? Chris?

Anything else in the Architecture that cries out for updating?

The other major bit (except the blind stuff, which we are way behind
on), is the standard ballot system that Anand is working on (I think
with Matt's help). Anand: how is that going? I know you had a
vacation also (and work, of course), but have you made progress on the
wxPython ballot?

Yours, David...
