Hello all,

This morning our local public radio station had interviews with Sam
Reed, incumbent SOS and Laura Ruderman, his challenger. This is the
same Sam Reed that gave provisional certification for tally and DRE
software that had not been through federal certification, contrary to
prior statements and Washington state rules he had put in place!
Although Reed talks about a paper record, at no time does he mention
that it should be voter verifiable. Ruderman is making voter verified
ballots a main campaign issue, insisting that they go into a lock box as
well. You can guess who has my vote! She also has what seems to be a
unique perspective - the state should not buy voting systems from
companies that make campaign contributions. This wipes out Diabold and
Sequoia (which is what is in use where I vote). Reed makes an
interesting statement, that 88% of Washington voters are expected to
turn out. This turns out to be close to 100% after you discount the
"non-voters" who simply moved out of their districts.
