We're not saying that. My message is pretty simple: Let's try to raise
develop a sustaining funding base very soon (like in the next couple of
weeks). If we can't do that, someone other than me will have to take over.
With luck, the new person will have the necessary wherewithal to bring in
the necessary funding.

I think it's possible to get the thousand or more subscribers we need soon.
It will take some team work but I think it could be done.

Here's one thing we've learned: we get about one contribution for every
1,000 visitors to our web site. Contributions average around $40. With a
more focused fundraising message on our web site, it's not unreasonable to
expect we could get a $10 per month subscription for every 1,000 or so
visitors. So, this pledge drive we are contemplating boils down to getting
on the order of one million visitors to our web site.

How many lists can we get our message out to? I think the message can be
very simple and very brief... something like, "If you care about the future
of democracy, you need to read about this now! [link]"

And, if we get the 1,000 (or 1111 by 11-11), I think we can get 10,000. The
process of getting the 1,000 will expand our base greatly. We should also
get some good media as a result. 10,000 in no way approaches saturation.
