OK... I did as I recommended. I split out the non-audio files into
evm_files-noaudio.tar.gz, which is a very moderate 2 MB. Then I did
two other things: used bzip2 to create an archive of the WAVs, which
brought it down 30 MB (from 42 MB with gzip); I also converted the WAVs
to MP3s, which makes for 4.2 MB of audio data, rather than 53 MB of
WAVs. At least over my cheap built-in speakers, I can't tell the
difference in sound quality (for voice, it's not very important
anyway).

I'm not sure if the audio player(s) we use handle MP3s seamlessly. But
I figure it can't hurt if people want to download and try those (not
necessarily EVM2003 members, others might want to play with our
software, especially after the demo).

Btw. Sourceforge "File Release" is a complete PITA. The interface is
completely confusing to me, and requires multiple unrelated steps. But
even past that, I had to try THREE times to upload the big bz2 archive.
  (1) First time I got impatient and tried adding it to the file list
before the upload was done (but it appeared on the incoming/ list):
truncated file, even though uploading continued. (2) Second time, I
left upload running over night: it was gone in the morning, despite
"successful" upload (a time limit on the incoming/ directory?). (3)
Finally succeeded. Oh well... done griping, back to your normal
programming schedule :-)...

Yours, David...
