For the record- Bev knows I advocate hand counting over current proprietary
systems- and recognize obvious benefits. The downside, however, is strong.

In SF County- I went on record in support of hand counting rather than using
the bogus crap. Interestingly -SF has Instant run-off / Rank Choice Voting-
so hand counting would have been rough-

Alan, your answer regarding hand counts is not particularly well informed,
and
would do better to first study the European communities that succeed with it
in
large metro communities. It tends to confirm my concern that the Open Source
community may in the end be fighting FOR technology and against the human
rights approach. I hope that doesn't happen.

Your concepts about fraud are based on party-centric hand count observation,
not
public counting models -- two very different things.

Government is the servant of the people, and not the master of them. The
people, in delegating authority, do not give their public servants the right
to decide what is good for the people to know and what is not good for them
to
know. We insist on remaining informed so that we may retain control over the
instruments of government we have created.
