I'm connected again now. I saw that there has been a lot of discussion
about the vision impaired interface, I'll read up on this.

Alan's proposal is actually pretty much like the scheme I considered.
Maybe the up-arrow could be used to supply help at each stage.

That wouldn't work for multiple choice contests.
