I meant by 'cite' that I had read descriptions like those at Chilling
Effects. I have not particularly known friends who have been subject
to these nastygrams (though I was one of the couple hundred John Does
in the first round of DeCSS DMCA C&D's... my ISP caved on my behalf,
against my wishes, and my "violation" became moot).

But Karl's suggestion is, indeed, an excellent resource for both
understanding and addressing intimidation against free software, free
documents, and free expression generally.
