Except it's not a strawman! This is what the VVPT you get out of
an Avante machine looks like (a bit shorter than a yard because
Avante uses 3 inch tape where Selker's example is 1.5 inch tape).

It is quite clear that there are lots of people out there designing
really hard to use solutions to voter-verification.
