As long as we are noting the positions of presidential candidates on
election integrity issues, did everyone see this on the BragBlog?

http://www.bradblog.com/?p=4217

Excerpt:

The BRAD BLOG <http://www.BradBlog.com> was contacted late last night by
Progressive Democrats of America <http://www.PDAmerica.org> (PDA) Board
Chair Mimi Kennedy with the news that during a campaign event in Los
Angeles Edwards agreed to join her organization in calling for an end to
electronic ballots in American elections.

PDA has been one of many groups calling for the ban and other important
amendments <http://www.votersunite.org/info/HR811EssentialRevisions.htm>
to Rep. Rush Holt's (D-NJ) new Election Reform bill (HR 811
<http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:H.R.811.IH:>), recently
introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Kennedy, an activist and actress well known for her role as Dharma's
mother on ABC's /Dharma and Greg/, told The BRAD BLOG
<http://www.BradBlog.com> that during a Q & A period following his
address last night, she asked Edwards whether he would join PDA in their
campaign
<http://capwiz.com/pdamerica/issues/alert/?alertid=9406781&type=CO>
calling for "the complete removal of all Touch-Screen Direct Record
Electronic voting machines from U.S. elections, with or without a paper
trail."

Drawing an "X" in the air as the question was being asked, Edwards ---
who was reportedly upset <http://www.bradblog.com/?p=3134> at Sen. John
Kerry's decision /not/ to contest the 2004 Presidential Election count,
or lack thereof, in Ohio --- answered with a definitive "Yes!"

"Yes!" echoed Kennedy in response as the audience reportedly cheered and
applauded.

*******(end of excerpt)

Where Edwards stands on a strategy to replace DREs is at this point
unknown, as far as I'm aware. (For the sake of transparency on this
list, I should probably note that I am an Edwards supporter, though I
want him to get more specific about this issue.)

By the way, has anyone done an analysis of the Count Every Vote Act that
Senator Clinton has introduced? Do we know if it's unchanged from 2005?
I did a quick google of it, and found something on John Kerry's web site
about the 2005 version that says:

/On February 17th Kerry, Senators Hillary Clinton, Barbara Boxer and
Frank Lautenberg introduced S 450 the “Count Every Vote Act of 2005” to
fully fund the Help America Vote Act, fund the activities of the
Election Assistance Commission, and help states invest in better voting
machines with paper trails.

If it still emphasizes the EAC, is this a bad thing? I know that some
people are worried that the EAC puts too much of the power to monitor
our elections at the federal level. That is my concern about it as well.
I remember thinking this was a good bill 2 years ago, but I wonder if it
has kept up with the latest thinking on the issue?
