A direct recording electronic voting machine is a voting machine
in which the votes cast by the voter are directly recorded using
electronic technology. Voters may indicate their votes using
touch screens, push buttons or other means. Any technology may be
used to display election contests. The important thing is that the
records of votes are stored electronically for some interval before
they are printed or otherwise converted to durable human-readable
records.
