We use Open FirmWare on the OLPC XO. The XO Bitfrost security system,
mostly the work of Ivan Krstić, is available for use in these
applications. OFW is built on top of Forth, with only a few K of
assembly language code that a significant number of people know how to
read. I can do it to some extent, and there are experts available. The
best is Mitch Bradley (http://www.firmworks.com/), the author of the
original OFW for Sun, who adapted it to the XO after Sun put it under
a BSD license.
