Votehere is the unintentional enemy of Voter verified paper audit trails. The offer a fairly respectable receipt scheme based on crypto. that allows you to call in and see if your ballot made it to city hall.

problems with receipts in general include:
1) okay so "some" ballot got to city hall but did it contain your votes?
2) if the hash can ID your ballot by content instead of ID number
then it can be inverted either by cracking the hash or if someone leaks the keys.
So you dont have the ballot security you thought you did.
3) even if it were secure voters would not know this since its not transparently so.
4) finally even if a problem is discoverd you cant recount.

vote here are howerver quite smart.

Subject: [OVC-discuss] Please tell me re. Votehere voting system vendor

It seems that the Votehere group has become involved with helping to
write legislation here in Utah to promote the Votehere system.
http://www.le.state.ut.us/~2005/bills/hbillint/hb0211.htm

Can you please tell me about the Votehere voting and election system
please?

I need to know.

Please let me know if it would it be alright to post your comments on
http://utahcountvotes.org or not also.

Thank you.

Charlie Strauss has tried to give advice and input to Rep John Dougall
http://www.le.state.ut.us/house/members2005/bios2005.asp?id=27

on how to revise/improve HB211 but there is atleast one Utah computer
scientist who seems to be working with the Votehere people and with Rep
Dougall on authoring this amendment, so we are uncertain yet whether
Charlie's advice will be taken.
