That's an interesting thought. A quick search on Sourceforge shows several
PDF417 projects.

I also notice that Omniplanar claims to be able to decode PDF417 from any
image -- not sure if that software is freely available and/or open source.

Maybe we can get someone to work with Ed to make this happen.
