Subject: USACM Voter Registration Database study

The USACM released today the results of a study on voter registration
databases, with the goal of providing technical guidance on implementing
HAVA's requirement for statewide voter registration databases.
The report discusses how to provide accuracy, privacy, usability,
security, and reliability for these databases. I was one of the members
of the committee, and I'm quite pleased with the results of this work.

Compared to the e-voting controversy, the move to statewide databases
hasn't gotten a lot of press, but it seems like it could end up having a
significant effect on the conduct of elections, so I thought this may be
of interest to folks on this group. I'm hopeful that our report will help
to illuminate some of the issues and technical challenges in this area.

Our report is available at the following URL:
This is also mentioned on an entry today in the USACM blog:
Feel free to pass this on to anyone else who may be interested.
