I have emailed Ping about the concerns expressed on this list. As I
expected, he was very agreeable to adding appropriate citation to the
prior work of OVC/EVM2003.

Ping asks, however, for clarification on exactly *what* is best to
cite in future footnotes. We had quite a bit of discussion around
this, but it's also not obvious to me exactly what an academic
footnote should reference. If members of this list can propose
citation details, I will work with Ping on the best form for
reference to the EVM2003 work.

I presume that a good footnote might include a couple citations. For
example, perhaps it would make sense to include both a link to the
Sourceforge project page, and also to the supporting discussion (even
if indirect) within the academic papers Arthur and I worked on (with
varying co-authors).
