This is an excellent idea, but it falls in a large category
these days, something technological that, even though the
price is reasonable, many would consider unreasonable because
their memory of the price of technology is out of line with
the real price. So, while an election official would be
happy to buy his family a new camcorder, the idea of buying
one for the office would be unreasonable, even though it
costs considerably less than one of his voting machines.
