FAQ # 33

"What qualifies Alan Dechert to lead this effort?"

Before I answer this question, let me answer another question, like, "What
qualifies Alan Dechert to be the father of Grant and Meredith Dechert."

The answer to this question has several parts:

1) I made certain decisions related to initiating this project, in
consultation with others -- especially the one that was my main partner is
this venture.

2) I engaged in certain activities that increased the probability that such
a venture would be come into being.

3) Once underway, I made investments of time, money, and other resources
that helped with the nurturing process.

4) After some time, I was able to identify and locate others that I could
trust to help with the process. And they have helped.

5) This on-going process still needs my attention. At some point, I hope
that day-to-day monitoring and guidance will not be necessary. But since I
accomplished steps 1, 2, 3, and 4 above (with help from others) I feel
obligated to stick with it until that point arrives. No one else has the
requisite attachment to and knowledge of this particular project than I
have.

So, my qualifications to be the father of Grant and Meredith are manifest by
the fact that I am their father.

Steps 1 - 5 above also generally describe other things I have done such as
help bring about the OVC.

In other words, my qualifications have been demonstrated. It doesn't make
sense to ask if one is qualified to do what one has already done.
