John Gage, Chief Scientist at Sun Microsystems, gave a talk at
SDForum last night about the impact of new technologies, and
included a brief rant about voting machines, so I told the
meeting about OVC.

John would be a good candidate for a vendor seat on the board. He
doesn't have time to be on the list, of course.

He also talked about's global map software, new
communications and HDTV chips, the Simputer, Masayashi Son's
broadband network, and a lot more. From my point of view, the
most important thing he said was that heads of state and
government ministers from about 90 countries stood up at the
recent WSIS and pledged serious money to place computers and
wireless in the villages in their countries. So we can go talk
to them about using our voting machines anytime they want to go
