It's worth noting that Sequoya has released their XML-based standard
for the encoding of vote records from their DRE machine. They'll
be using this in their voter verifiable paper audit trail mechanism.
They showed me the concept drawings of it at the NIST meeting last
week, and it was interesting, but very expensive looking.

Whatever the case may be, as open standards like this come to market,
we need, in the long run, to justify our departure from them. In the
short run, for the prototype, there's no problem. Quick and dirty
wins there.
