This is just one person's opinion, but I like the idea that we have a few
hardware vendors on the board.

Absolutely. But the place where I was questioning having vendors was on the
Board of Directors. We'll have to think carefully about how certain
decisions the Board takes might benefit one company over another.
Obviously, this situation has been dealt with successfully in the past with
other consortia so it should be possible. I'm just saying there are some
tricky issues to consider.

As for members, of course we want vendors. Largely, we will be growing our
own crop of election vendors. But it's also possible that our software
could work with some existing systems already out there (maybe with slight
modification). So I wouldn't rule out having some existing vendors as
members but I think that's down the road a ways (like waaaay down the road).
