You are following a wise precedent in using the term Free Software as
opposed to the term open source. Richard Stallman and the Free Software
Foundation ( have been at it for decades. He and the network of
experts who support the foundation's activities are fighting lots of
important battles even today, especially today; the foundation operates
on a respectable budget and its continuing achievements are the stuff of
legends. Even the Linux kernel uses the gnu public license (the GPL).
The open source initiative is a recent, minimally funded, one
dimensional organization which cannot compare to the Free Software
Foundation and its complex network of expert activists in any real regard.

If you are using these tools every day then you know how right you are
about the 'tools'. If you are only somewhat familiar with them then
rest assured that they are even better than you know. I'm struggling to
get over this nasty current version of the Influenza virus as soon as
possible so that I can get active and give you all a GUI to examine and
to critique.
