Shamos is promoting this system. The project lead says that it is all about
user-friendliness for the disabled. No mention of security.

at Auburn University<http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=wy7mndcab.0.sd9mpdcab.uerxdtn6.44508&ts=S0269&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ocm.auburn.edu%2Fnews_releases%2Felec.html>will
be on display Thursday, August 16th at 10:15am and 3:15pm during the
2007
National BDPA Conference<http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=wy7mndcab.0.4pcbngbab.uerxdtn6.44508&ts=S0269&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bdpa.org%2Fportal%2Findex.php%3Foption%3Dcom_content%26task%3Dview%26id%3D164%26Itemid%3D194>.
The conference is being held at the Wardman Park Marriott Hotel in
Washington, DC. The workshop and lab will provide attendees the opportunity
to see the future of voting.

The Prime III voting system is currently being discussed in Congress as a
solution to voting irregularities. This innovative voting solution developed
at Auburn University was discussed as a potential solution to the nation's
voting woes<http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=wy7mndcab.0.td9mpdcab.uerxdtn6.44508&ts=S0269&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.verifiedvoting.org%2Fdownloads%2F20070725_shamos_statement.mp3>.
Prime III was developed in the Human Centered Computing Lab at Auburn
University under the direction of Dr. Juan E. Gilbert. "Prime III allows
every citizen regardless of ability to privately and accurately cast their
vote on the same machine equally", says Gilbert.
Voters Cast Ballots by Voice or Touch

The
Prime III system<http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=wy7mndcab.0.9d9mpdcab.uerxdtn6.44508&ts=S0269&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D3egmhvgYil0>has
a usable security model that incorporates advanced security techniques
and implements an easy to use interface. Voters cast their ballots by touch
or voice. Dr. Gilbert calls this a multimodal approach to electronic voting.
"First generation voting systems were all manual; paper, punch cards and
lever machines are a few examples. Second generation machines are computer
based like optical scan machines and touch screens. However, third
generation machines are multimodal. They allow more people to vote on the
same machine without assistance.

Prime III is a third generation voting machine. Voters that can not read,
hear, see or have a physical disability, can still vote using Prime III
without assistance" describes Gilbert. Prime III has been tested with senior
citizens, the blind and the general population in studies at Auburn
University.
