Not bad, especially with an open source os. But...Apple is going to the intel architecture anyway, so the current processor on the box (Motorola/IBM) is a lame duck, even if not yet a dead duck. If Apple will assure parts and support, I think it could work. One would still need to make security mods--these might make it quite a bit more expensive, if they are doable at all. Gotta keep the rascals out.

Cheers!

P.S. I am very fond of ducks, myself.

Subject: Meet the $499 Mac.

Tiny computer. Huge possibilities.
Meet Mac mini—just 6.5 inches square, 2 inches tall, and only 2.9 pounds. It comes with iLife '05—Apple's integrated suite of digital media applications that let you do amazing things with photos, movies, music, and DVDs right out of the box. And thanks to the stable, intuitive Mac OS X Tiger, things like surfing the web, connecting to peripherals, and networking are as simple as turning it on.

Getting started is easy, too—just plug Mac mini into your existing display, keyboard, and mouse.* It comes with a Combo drive for burning CDs and watching DVDs, or a SuperDrive for burning DVDs too. Most models even include built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.** Best of all, Mac mini has a mini price—starting at $499. Find it at your local Apple Store, Apple Authorized Resellers, or the online Apple Store.

Discover Tiger.

Live creatively.
Get the most from your photos, movies, and music with iLife '05.

*Compatible with most displays, USB keyboards, and USB mice.

**Wireless Internet access requires an AirPort-enabled computer, a base station or other wireless access point, and Internet access (fees may apply). Some ISPs are not compatible with AirPort.

Prices are Apple Store prices, do not include taxes or shipping, are subject to change, and are listed in U.S. dollars. Product specifications are also subject to change.
