Miami had a great idea for their scripts -- they made the scripts, by
hand,
on absentee ballots. As a result, the same scripts that were used to
test
their touch-screen systems could also be fed through their absentee
ballot
scanners to test them.

Furthermore, they could trivially compare the results of tabulating the
touch
screen systems with the results of tabulating the absentee ballots to
compare
the two, and hand-tabulating the test scripts once was sufficient to
check
two different voting systems.

They designed their scripts entirely by hand. I have nothing against
hand-checking a script, but it's nice to have automated assistance.
