It is a nice success for something pretty close to OVC-style machines.
I wish the source code was open too, of course. But the procedure of
using a touch screen to generate a paper ballot... and a ballot that is
manually examined by a voter before being deposited in a ballot box
(contra the Mercuri ballot-under-glass design)... is basically the same
as we have. The web site even takes trouble to note the random order of
EBI storage, even if we don't know the specific mechanism by which it is
done.

Btw. I had read something earlier--or thought I did--about Olivetti
developing the software for the machines. I don't see that on the
Smartatic site. Was it just an error by me, or by the reporter, or is
this some complex subsidiary and sub-contracting sort of thing?
