Last Day for Alan D. -- at least for now

Dear Friends,

Personal circumstances make it impossible for me to continue devoting time
to the demo project. I hope and expect the demo development to continue and
succeed.

Since 2000, at various points in time, I have reviewed my work on the idea
and wondered, "If I let go of it now, will it float?" I have always
concluded that it probably would not.

However, I have to say that there has always the possibility of someone else
picking it up and running with it later. But I really want to see some
continuity. Even if I don't get any credit for it, I'd like to see it in my
lifetime.

It's time for me to let go of it and see if it will float. There are
several important issues still up in the air but I just can't spend time
worrying about it. It doesn't look like Dean Wright will have the time to
take on the Dev Lead role. I have asked David Mertz to take on this role.
I hope you will join me in encouraging him to do it.

Keep in mind the meeting notes from 7/31, where we agreed, among other
things, that "It is understood that the people and roles are not static - we
expect the team to grow and change."

We need a programmer to help Arnie Urken. We need someone to help Adrianne
get the Gantt chart/roadmap done. We need lots of things. I will post a
few other thoughts later today about the things I think are most important
to keep in mind. I will be unsubscribing myself from the voting-project
list after today.

Thanks to all of you for your interest in the project and for your
contributions to it.
