My own personal sound bites at your service:

We need open-software and visible-ballots for the same reason we have open-meetings laws; sunshine is a disinfectant.

DREs are the voting equivalent of the Emporer's new clothes; you cant actually see the ballot, but everyone trust it's there.

All engnieers know that if you must rely on an imperfect system, design it so it fails safely, and has a backup.

Currently DREs must be perfect and cant recover when inevitable human mistakes occur.

Sound bites aren't the best way to explain what we're doing, but it's
apparent we need some. We have just started dealing with major media and
they more or less require some of this.

The NYT pick up this one

"It's the open alternative to the 'black box'"
systems currently in use, said Alan Dechert....

Here's one thing I used in the presentation on the 1st:

We want to build a voting system that everyone
can trust and that everyone can afford--for the
United States and the whole world.

Let's hear your ideas!
